TOWN OF WALLKILL – Armed with $1.8 million in state funding, the Town of Wallkill has completed the Winding Brook Floodplain mitigation initiative designed to diminish flood damage during future storms, protect vital infrastructure and improve emergency response capabilities.

The project was one of three funded with a total of $3.1 million from the state, said Lori DuBord, senior project manager with the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery.

“They came up with programs designed to improve drainage, to prevent flooding of local businesses and ensure emergency access,” she said during a briefing at town hall on Tuesday.

Town Supervisor George Serrano said he has seen the damage caused by Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Lee firsthand. He said the three projects mitigated safety and flooding concerns at no cost to local residents.
