KINGSTON – A 49-year-old Saugerties man faces a potential prison sentence of eight years for his conviction on three counts of aggravated family offense.

An Ulster County Court jury this week also convicted Jason Hinchey of one felony count of bail jumping.

The trial was held before Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell, serving as acting Ulster County Court judge.

The case stemmed from an assault that occurred on March 28, 2019, in Saugerties.

Hinchey assaulted a former girlfriend physically injuring her and preventing her from leaving.

The woman suffered a concussion and a fracture from the attack.

Hinchey later failed to appear court to face the charges.

“Domestic violence of any kind is a scourge on any community,” said District Attorney David Clegg. “This office will take strong action to eradicate it.”

He encouraged anyone experiencing domestic violence “to protect themselves, to report it to authorities, and expect that this office will take every possible legal action to ensure accountability for the offender and protection for the victim.”
