NEWBURGH – Newburgh School Superintendent Roberto Padilla may be collecting his salary for the next 23 months while officially out on administrative leave, but the fallout continues. His leave with full pay and benefits, amounting to just under $1 million, resulted from the school board cutting him a deal without pressing charges after two female subordinates alleged inappropriate behavior on his part, something he has denied.

The Newburgh Teachers’ Association has been silent during the whole situation with its president, Stacy Moran, not returning calls for comment.

But, Joe Ammons, president of the school district’s CSEA local, told Mid-Hudson News on Wednesday that he is not pleased with the way it all went down.

“As far the investigative reports, I understand there were two violations of two articles – misconduct – and they are being overlooked or reworded by the district in order to be guaranteed his golden parachute,” Ammons said. “We are still having a huge transparency issue.”

The CSEA represents non-instructional staff at the enlarged city school district.

Those two violations cited in investigative reports deal with federal statutes.
