NEWBURGH – Waterfront parking in the City of Newburgh is going to be metered by the end of the new year. In fact, Mayor Torrance Harvey said all of Broadway and the city’s parking lots will be metered with state-of-the-art devices.

Parking for the popular waterfront, with its many restaurants, is at a premium, particularly on weekends. Those spots will be metered and the archaic meters on Broadway, many of which don’t work, will be replaced, Harvey said.

“They are going to be modern parking meters and you can use a debit card or a credit card to pay, very similar to what you see in New York City and/or in some of the other municipalities like in Westchester County,” he said.

City officials in Newburgh see the extensive metering as a means to collect tens of thousands of additional dollars to fund city expenses.
