MONTICELLO – As if fentanyl-laced heroin is not enough of an issue facing area law enforcement and mental health professionals, older drugs are now beginning to reappear, Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan Galligan says.

The combination of drugs flooding the market is making the narcotics epidemic that much more challenging, she said.

“What we are seeing is not so much relief from the heroin and fentanyl epidemic, but a resurgence of other drugs. We are seeing a lot more ecstasy and methamphetamine. So our priorities, even acid, remain with the toxic drugs that are causing all of these overdoses, but we also have to broaden our horizons now to intercept and dismantle distribution networks with respect to these other drugs,” she said.

And the DA said it is only a matter of time until fentanyl infects those reemerging drugs as well.
