Dana Distributors' Tom Kennedy, podium, discusses this yer's Alert Cab program

GOSHEN – Need a ride on New Year’s Eve after a night of drinking, Dana Distributing will help you out.

The beverage distributor has been helping to pay for rides since 1986, providing nearly 2,400 free rides since them. This year they are teaming up with Uber to try and made the final hours of 2021 and the first hours of 2022 a safe time for partygoers.

“You can go as far as you want,” said Tom Kennedy, the general manager of Dana Distributing, “but we will cover up to $10.”

Kennedy gathered local and state law enforcement officials Wednesday to let the public know about the free ride program.

To get the ride, scan the UBER QR code between 4 p.m. 12/31 and 2 a.m., 1/1, and a ride will help you get home safely.

Several taxicab companies in Orange, Sullivan and Rockland counties are also participating in the annual Alert Cab program.

In the first six months of 2021, there have been 711 DWI arrests in Orange County.

“We want to be part of the solution, not the problem,” said Kennedy. “It’s all about responsibility.”
