MILLBROOK – A 16-year-old teen from Salt Point was killed in a Tuesday afternoon accident in Millbrook. The two-car collision that occurred at 2:55 p.m. claimed the life of Madison Lynch-Dingee, a student at Our Lady of Lourdes High School.

A Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office deputy came upon the accident on Route 82 near North Shanks Road while on routine patrol. The preliminary investigation indicates that Lynch-Dingee was driving a 2011 Subaru at a high rate of speed traveling north on Route 82 and attempted to pass a 2016 Acura.

The operator of the Acura was unaware that Lynch-Dingee was attempting to pass and attempted to make a left turn onto North Shanks Road. Lynch-Dingee struck the Acura, left the roadway onto the western shoulder, and eventually struck a tree. Lynch-Dinge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the Acura were uninjured and at this time no charges have been filed, according to Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Captain John Watterson.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit and Detective Bureau, however, at this time unsafe speed on the part of the Subaru appears to be a primary factor. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Dutchess County Medical Examiner, Millbrook Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
