NEWBURGH – Christmas came a few days early for Newburgh as Mayor Torrance Harvey announced the state has awarded it two-thirds of the funds needed to upgrade its main sewer system.
The mayor said the project is long overdue and this grant will go a long way to paying for it.
“The City of Newburgh was granted $10 million for the north interceptor project, which is reconstructing it and relocating the north interceptor in the City of Newburgh, which deals with our sewer system also deals with a DEC consent order to separate the water and the sewage, the water-sewer separation project,” he said.
The total project cost is $16 million, so Harvey said they are now in the process of identifying other funding sources.
