KINGSTON – Several communities in the Hudson Valley have voted to adopt good cause eviction legislation while others are considering it.

The county of Ulster has been looking into it for months but was waiting for an advisory opinion concerning county legislators who are landlords.

Lawmaker Tracy Bartels is one of them, who said the ethics board opinion came down on Monday.

“Those of us who are landlords or who are tenants of the relevant property are advised not to weigh in on what is perceived as a conflict of interest,” she said.

Other Ulster legislators are also landlords. How the ethics board ruling affects any potential vote on good cause evictions remains to be seen.
