Two Newburgh men charged with attempted murder for shooting each other

NEWBURGH – A 24-year-old Newburgh man has been indicted on a charge of attempted murder in connection with the shooting of a man in the middle of the day on Williams Street in the City of Newburgh on September 8.

The man Lavelle Stackhouse was shooting at, Joshua Hendrick, 21, also of Newburgh, was also indicted on a charge of attempted murder.

It is alleged that Stackhouse approached Hendrick on the street, pulled a gun and fired at Hendrick, striking him in the torso and leg. Hendrick then pulled out a gun and returned fire at Stackhouse as Stackhouse ran down the street. Another individual was shot in the shoulder during the incident.

The entire episode was captured on video.

Stackhouse fled the scene and was not located and apprehended until Thursday with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force.

Both men are in the Orange County Jail on high bail. Both face 25 years in prison if convicted of the attempted murder charge.

Both Stackhouse and Hendrick were also arraigned by Judge Hyun Chin Kim on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. Stackhouse was also charged with assault.
