Shoppers flood in stores to take advantage of Black Friday specials

MID-HUDSON – Shoppers are turning out in large numbers today as the holiday shopping season begins with Black Friday sales.

In fact, by 11 a.m., the Woodbury Common parking lots were at full capacity and the Route 17 westbound exit 131 ramp is closed, State Police said. The Route 6/32 ramp is also closed and traffic delays are on Route 32.

The day after Thanksgiving signals the start of the shopping frenzy. It may be a little busier to start as Hanukkah begins at sundown on Sunday this year.

In recent years, the following Monday has developed into the start of the online shopping season. Those sales rose substantially over the last two years because of the pandemic.

With more and more people getting vaccinated against COVID-19, in-person shopping has been picking up so stores are expected to have a good holiday shopping season this December.
