PLEASANT VALLEY – Democrat Frank Mazzella has conceded to Republican John DelVecchio in the race for Pleasant Valley town supervisor.  Mazzella conceded this week after the absentee ballots were tallied at the Dutchess County Board of Elections.

DelVecchio garnered 1,378 votes to Mazzella’s 1,339 votes.  There are 35 unopened ballots and Mazzella would not be able to take the lead.

“I would like to congratulate Johnny DelVecchio on his victory and I look forward to working with him and our new board,” Mazzella said.  Both Mazzella and DelVecchio were town board members while campaigning for the top post.  Mazzella will remain on the town board and will be joined by Mary Albrecht, a returning board member who ran as a Democrat.  Newly elected Councilman Michael Rifenburgh, also a Democrat, will take office in January.   Mazzella, Albrecht, and Rifenburgh ran together known as “Community First” and the Democrats will have a majority on the town board.

Asked about his vision for the town as incoming supervisor, DelVecchio said, “It would be wrong for me to put forth plans without including the new town board. Regardless of affiliations, this board will work together.”

The Supervisor-elect also claimed there would be “no secret agendas.”  Mazzella, when asked about his dialogue with DelVecchio, said “I already spoke with John and we had a great conversation about the direction of the of town.”
