ALBANY – Two Hudson Valley senators announced on Veterans Day that they secured $380,000 in state funding to support the Veterans and Military Families Advocacy Project, an initiative of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.

The funds were secured by Senators Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) and James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) in the state budget, which was adopted last April.

The money will enable Legal Services to serve thousands of veterans who have returned from service and are now facing civil legal issues at home.

From January 1 through October 31, Legal Services attorneys handled 719 cases, which impacted 1,316 veteran and military family households. Forty-seven percent of those cases were related to housing, 17 percent to income stabilization, 11 percent to domestic violence and family matters, 10 percent to end-of-life planning, nine percent to health, and four percent to consumer issues.
