Liaison to Hispanic community named in Greenburgh

GREENBURGH – Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner has named Maria Portilla as special advisor/liaison to the Hispanic community. 

Portilla will be volunteering in the office of Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner and will make recommendations to town officials on ways the town could address the needs of the growing Hispanic community.

   Portilla will also encourage the Hispanic community to participate in town advisory committees and boards and will work to encourage town officials to hire officials who speak Spanish and know how to interact with the Spanish community, said Feiner.

  Portilla will hold office hours every Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Greenburgh Town Hall for residents who have any personal issues and need government assistance. 

She will translate important documents in Spanish and provide help to individuals. 

She is skilled in crisis intervention, family therapy, case management and program development. 

Portilla worked as a senior social worker for Westchester County, Department of Social Services-CPS/Multidisciplinary Unit.  

She is a district leader and member of the Greenburgh Human Rights Advisory Committee. 

She has been living in Greenburgh for 20 years.
