In Newburgh, eight busted on drug, gun charges

One of three guns seized during a warrant search in the City of Newburgh

NEWBURGH – A warrant search at an apartment at 355 Liberty Street in Newburgh on Wednesday led to the arrests of eight people on felony drug and weapons possession charges.

The search warrant was developed from the police department’s investigation into the murder of Jorge Arbayza De La Cruz; however, police said none of the charges is related to the homicide itself.

The raid was conducted by city police, State Police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI-Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force. The warrant was executed by the sheriff’s office Special Operations Group.

Once inside the residence investigators located three loaded firearms as well as 336 grams of PCP.

Charged with felony drug possession were Jamal Miller, 29, of Newburgh; Delatheon Moore, 34, of Brooklyn; Syheem Johnson, 23, of Newburgh; Ernest Elliot III, 18, of Newburgh; Louise Peterson, 45, of Newburgh; Tyrell Simon, 20, of Newburgh; and Jahmeek Miller, 18, of Newburgh.

Charged with weapons possession were Justice Jackson, 19, of Newburgh; and Jahmeek Miller.

All persons with the exception of Louise Peterson, Justice Jackson, and Tyrell Simons, were issued appearance tickets returnable to court. Peterson, Jackson and Simon were arraigned and released by Newburgh City Court.
