HIGHLAND FALLS – State Senator James Skoufis is urging the State Department of Transportation to resurface Route 218 from Highland Falls to the West Point Thayer Gate.

That stretch is “severely dilapidated… requiring much-needed maintenance to ensure the safety of its users,” the senator wrote in a letter to DOT Regional Director Lance MacMillan.

Skoufis urged MacMillan to “prioritize Route 218’s resurfacing as you consider your spring 2022 paving schedule.”

The senator said that state road is highly trafficked and serves, in part, as the Village of Highland Falls Main Street.

He said the corridor is heavily used by servicemembers, staff, and visitors to West Point, as well as local residents.
