LIBERTY – The Village of Liberty Police Department has announced its partnership with Hope Not Handcuffs- Hudson Valley.

Effective immediately, anyone suffering from alcohol or drug addiction can feel safe to just walk-in to the station between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and ask for the Hope Not Handcuffs program, or ask an officer.

A trained “Angel” volunteer will be called to come and assist in finding treatment. There is no issue of health insurance.

The Liberty Police Department will also be working in conjunction with the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office and Hope Not Handcuffs in a pre-arrest diversion program. Officers will work to divert individuals facing certain low level non-violent drug crimes into treatment rather than into the criminal justice system.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please call (833)428-HOPE.
