ALBANY – The number of new jobs created in the Hudson Valley/Catskills region in the 12 months ending in July indicate the economy is making a strong comeback.

Private sector jobs increased by 54,800, or 7.8 percent, to 761,300 during that 12-month period.

Sullivan County experienced the greatest increase with a 12.3 percent rate of growth, which is good news to Sullivan County Partnership President Marc Baez.

“That said, however, they still need people to work there (at Resorts World Catskills), the Kartrite still needs people to work there, and there are many signs throughout the county that we are hiring right now and there are places that are paying sign-on bonuses. In fact I think Resorts World has a sign out that it is paying $500 sign-on bonuses, as is the case throughout the rest of the Hudson Valley, but there news is good,” he said.

The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area had job growth of 8.2 percent. Ulster County came in with 7.4 percent job growth.

Columbia County saw growth of 5.9 percent, while the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division saw 4.8 percent growth, and Greene County had 3.1 percent job growth.

Delaware County saw a 2.9 percent drop in jobs.

Job gains were largest in leisure and hospitality at 25,500; trade, transportation and utilities saw 11,100 new jobs; education and health services had 9,500 new jobs; professional and business services reflected 7,200 jobs; other services had 2,300 new jobs manufacturing had 1,300 new jobs; natural resources, mining and construction saw 400 new jobs; and information had 300 new jobs.
