MONTICELLO – A former Metropolitan Transportation Department detective sergeant in the Interagency County Terrorism Task Force has been named the new Sullivan County commissioner of Public Safety.

County Manager Josh Potosek appointed Thomas Farney, who was confirmed by the county legislature on Thursday.

In his new role, Farney will oversee the county’s Division of Public Safety, which includes the Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security, the Bureau of Fire, the Bureau of EMS, and the 911 Center.

He will also be responsible for the county’s Emergency Operations Center when activated as it has been for pandemic and storm events.
