ALBANY – Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R, New Windsor) has received the backing of Elise Stefanik, chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, in his race for the 18th Congressional seat in next year’s election.

Stefanik is the highest-ranking Republican woman in the country and the third highest-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives.

She said Schmitt “is a proven leader who currently serves as a sergeant in the Army National Guard and as a legislator who has worked across the aisle to deliver results for his constituents.”

Stefanik said Hudson Valley residents “are enduring complete one-party Democrat control in state and federal government and it is time we restore checks and balances by flipping this district and ensuring Washington is accountable to New Yorkers again.”

Schmitt will be challenging Democratic Congressman Sean Patrol Maloney.
