NEWBURGH – NYS Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) recently completed his multi-county “Skoufis On Your Street” town hall series, bringing together residents, advocates, and local officials from Orange, Ulster, and Rockland counties to make their voices heard.

The tour included three stops in locally-owned restaurants over the course of two weeks, According to Skoufis, the listening tour brought constituents with diverse lived experiences and differing priorities to the table to relay the needs of their local communities and learn about his legislative record.

In Newburgh, constituents advocated on both sides of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) landlord/tenant spectrum, spoke in favor of strong environmental protections, and sought updates on the Resorts World Casino project at the Newburgh Mall.

The second stop on Skoufis’ tour, in Monroe, featured Skoufis voicing his strong support for women’s rights, discussing local land use concerns, and hearing about municipal infrastructure needs.

The last meeting was held in Haverstraw. Skoufis met with a few constituents and were able to share one-on-one conversations about increasing public transit options and cracking down on code enforcement negligence.

“As your State Senator, It’s not only my duty to ensure local voices are represented in Albany; it’s my distinct pleasure,” said Skoufis. “All too often, those in elected office lose sight of key issues impacting the day-to-day lives of the communities they represent. I am grateful to my constituents for taking time out of their days to hear about my work and to help me stay attuned to the needs of local families.”
