RHINEBECK – Congressional Representatives Antonio Delgado (NY-19) and Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) introduced bipartisan legislation to make it easier for small businesses to comply with onerous federal regulations. The One Stop Shop for Small Business Compliance Act of 2021 would create a centralized website for small business owners across the country to access resources and learn more about certain regulations.
Federal agencies are required to publish small business compliance guides for certain regulations; these guides are housed on different agency websites—making it difficult for small businesses to find and utilize them. The One Stop Shop for Small Business Compliance Act would make these guides more accessible by creating a centralized, online “one-stop-shop” for small business owners.
“We should be making it easier, not harder, for folks to run their small businesses and access resources from the federal government, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Delgado. “This bipartisan legislation will create a one-stop-shop for small business owners and self-owned employers to get answers and get back to business.”
The bill would require the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of the National Ombudsman to create a centralized website that houses compliance guides that pertain to federal regulations impacting small businesses. Under a separate law, the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act, federal agencies are required to publish a “small entity compliance guide” for certain regulations. This legislation would make these guides more accessible by creating a centralized “one-stop-shop” online for small business owners who often lack the resources to hire staff to focus on compliance issues. The bill would also list contact information for the appropriate agency staff who could provide regulatory assistance to small businesses.
