KINGSTON – A Kingston woman was sentenced in Ulster County Court on Monday to four years in state prison followed by two years of post-release supervision for criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, namely fentanyl.

Kyla Knowlton Romanelli, 32, who was on probation at the time, was arrested on October 11, 2019 after a probation check revealed her room at the Highland Motel where she was staying contained substantial quantities of fentanyl, a scale, packaging materials and branding stamps for distribution of fentanyl.

District attorney David Clegg said his office is “committed to significantly reducing the accessibility of fentanyl and similar dangerous drugs in this county.” He said that those who sell those drugs will be held accountable for any death or serious physical injury caused by use of illegal drugs sold by them.
