KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan announced that in the month since the county saw its first confirmed Delta variant case, the county has had 168 positive cases.

That increase puts the county at over 100 active cases for the first time since May 24.

In response to the increase, Ryan is re-activated the county’s emergency operation center to evaluate next steps.

The county executive called the Delta variant “a real threat to our ability to fully recover from the pandemic.”

He said the variant is spreading “at an alarming rate and it is overwhelmingly impacting those who have yet to be vaccinated.” He asked anyone who has not been vaccinated to do so “for their neighbors, their family, and themselves.”

To date, 74.8 percent of county residents over the age of 18 have received at least one dose of vaccine.

Since the first confirmed report of the Delta variant on June 27, 70.2 percent of new positive cases have been from residents who are unvaccinated.
