WAPPINGERS FALLS – The village is celebrating its 150th anniversary of becoming an incorporated village in 1871.  The event is taking place at Veterans Park on North Mesier Avenue on Saturday, July 10.

The celebration includes live music from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and fireworks are scheduled for 9:00 p.m.  Food trucks will be there with a variety of food around 5:00 p.m.

In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will be postponed to July 17.

The village was the territory of the Wappinger Native American Indian tribe dating back to the 17th century.  The land was part of the Rombout Patent and was purchased by two businessmen in 1741.

After a few transfers of the land, it was incorporated in 1871 and was a thriving industrial settlement that grew around the waterfall of the Wappinger Creek as the water traveled from Wappinger Lake to the Hudson River.
