MIDDLETOWN – School bus companies across the country need bus drivers. The shortage was caused in large part by the COVID-19 pandemic’s shutdown of in-person classes eliminating the need to transport students to and from school.

Mid-City Transit, the company that provides the transportation for the Middletown Enlarged City School District, is no exception.

During the pandemic, Mid-City did press some of its fleet into alternate service, said General Manager Dan Higbie.

“We also used our school buses for other purposes like delivering meals, delivering school supplies to some of our students and that type of thing,” he said.

During the pandemic, Mid-City delivered four million meals to Middletown students.

Mid-City is holding a job fair from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. today (Thursday) at its offices at 518 Route 17M in Middletown.
