KINGSTON – Many of the initiatives announced by the governor on Tuesday aimed at curbing gun violence across the state have been in practice in the City of Kingston for years, Police Chief Egidio Tinti said on Wednesday.

Among the governor’s proposals are for police departments to track crime hotspots, communicate with other area law enforcement agencies, and engage in a community relations effort.

Tinti said in many respects, Kingston is ahead of the curve, but gaining the support of the state will help.

“We are always happy to get additional monies from Albany, and at least now in the governor’s end of it, he has solidified the need to support communities like Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Kingston in their efforts to reduce the violence,” the chief said.

Tinti said those cities are continually sharing intelligence and crime data and participate in a regional crime data office.
