VALHALLA – The New York Medical College Center of Excellence in Precision Responses to Bioterrorism and Disasters has received $1 million from the state in its mission to deal with disaster medicine and medical countermeasures.

Dr. Alan Kadish, president of the college and the Touro College and University System, said the program is based on the school’s expertise in the field.

“In  this century we have had repeated natural and manmade disasters – 9/11, Hurricanes Sandy and Katrina, the COVID pandemic, the building collapse last week; we need to be prepared for those and that is the purpose for the Center for Disaster Medicine,” he said. “So, we do public education, we train first responders, we train hospitals, we train police and fire departments, to be able to respond to a variety of different disasters.

New York Medical College has received state funding for its continued mission since 2017.
