GOSHEN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler has been named Prosecutor of the Year by the New York Prosecutors Training Institute, created in 1995 by the District Attorney’s Association of the State of New York. The organization’s mission is to provide continuing legal education and mutual assistance to New York’s prosecutors’ offices.
Hoovler was honored as one of three prosecutors of the year for his executive leadership of the State District Attorneys’ Association through a turbulent time involving dramatic changes to the criminal justice system involving discovery and bail reform, prosecution conduct commissioners, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organization also notes that Hoovler was also a steadfast advocate for prosecutors across the state with the state legislature and governor making sure recently enacted criminal justice reforms were properly funded in the upstate communities.
He was honored along with two other award-winners – Todd Casella of Yates County, and Senior Appeals Counsel Nancy Killian of Bronx County.
