Ellenville man sentenced on rape conviction

KINGSTON – A 32-year-old Ellenville man has been sentenced in Ulster County Court to 20 years in state prison and 20 years of post-release supervision following his conviction on charges of violent felony rape, burglary and sexual abuse.

Andrew Sturgill will also be required to register as a sexual offender for life.

Sturgill was convicted of entering a woman’s Ellenville home and having sex with her while she was incapacitated.

This was the first jury trial held in county court since the onset of COVID-19.  Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell presided over the case as an acting Ulster County Court judge.
