RHINEBECK – A 61-year-old man with addresses in New York City and Rhinebeck was killed early Thursday afternoon when his cycle was struck by a pickup truck at Route 9G and Violet Hill Road in Rhinebeck.

The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reported that Juan Villareal was operating a 2019 Ducati motorcycle traveling southbound on Route 9G approaching the intersection when the truck, driven by Jon Nansen, 75, of Clinton Corners, which was traveling northbound on 9G, made a left turn onto Violet Hill in front of the bike.

The motorcycle struck the truck, ejecting Villarreal, who was pronounced dead at MidHudson Regional Hospital. The truck driver was also treated at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office Crash Investigations Unit and Detective Bureau; however, investigators say the primary factor appears to be failure to yield right of way on the part of the pickup truck driver.

Anyone who may have been in the area and witnesses either all or part of the crash is asked to contact Detective Wilber at 845-486-3826 or bwilber@dutchessny.gov. Information may also be provided through the sheriff’s office tipline at 845-605-2583 or dcsotips@gmail.com. All information will be kept confidential.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by State Police, Rhinebeck  and Hillside fire departments, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
