OTISVILLE – Former State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who was convicted on corruption charges while in office, has been released from the Otisville Federal Correctional Institution less than one year into a 6 ½ year sentence.

Silver, 77, was allowed to return to his New York City home while he awaits a decision on whether he can serve the remainder of his term in home confinement.

He could be allowed to remain at home because of his age and his vulnerability to the coronavirus.
