BEACON – The lower area of a 1 ½-story house at 45 Lafayette Street in the City of Beacon sustained fire damage on Thursday, April 29.

The fire was called in at 2:43 p.m. with a second alarm sounded.

When firefighters arrived, the occupant and family dog had safely gotten out of the residence.

The entire house was filled with smoke with the main fire in a rear basement bedroom.

Authorities said the quick interior fire attack and the bedroom door being closed helped keep the fire from spreading throughout the house.

The Red Cross provided lodging and assistance for the occupants.

There were no reports of injuries.

Mutual aid was provided by fire departments from the Village of Fishkill, Rombout and Castle Point at the scene. East Fishkill and Glenham were on standby at Beacon Fire State 2.

Beacon Volunteer Ambulance, Mobile Life Support Services, Beacon Police, Dutchess Sheriff’s K-9 unit, Dutchess County Fire Investigation Team, county cars 13/17, Red Cross and Central Hudson were also on the scene to provide assistance.
