PEEKSKILL – Peekskill Police have arrested a 33-year-old Peekskill man in connection with the April 25 burglary of A & D Jewelry at 924 South Street.  Officers had responded to the jewelry store at 1 p.m. on Sunday in response to a burglar alarm activation.

According to Lieutenant Jack Galusha, when the officers arrived, they determined that the store had been burglarized and several items of jewelry had been stolen.  Police Detective Matt Basso led the investigation that resulted in Peekskill resident Anthony Sidney being suspected of the crime.

On Tuesday, April 27, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Sidney was observed by police officers in the area of the 800 block of Main Street. When an officer attempted to stop him, Sidney took off and a foot pursuit ensued.

As he ran away, he dropped a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun in the roadway adjacent to a busy public park. Officers pursuing Sidney recovered that firearm, identified as a Phoenix Arms .25 caliber handgun.  The fleeing suspect was apprehended a short distance away.

A search warrant was then executed on Sidney’s residence where evidence pertinent to the jewelry store burglary was discovered, including several items of stolen jewelry.

Sidney is being charged with criminal possession of a weapon, burglary, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
