Democratic Party six-way race shapes up for two Saugerties Town Council seats

SAUGERTIES – Six Democratic candidates have filed petitions to run for the two Saugerties Town Board seats up for grabs in the November election.

Kevin Freeman and Kayleigh Zaloga have been endorsed by the party, but the two candidates to run in November will be chosen during a June 22 primary. Early voting begins on June 10.

The other four Democrats in the race are Diedre Miller, Tim Scott Jr., Nina Schmidbauer, and Lauren Ruberg.

Council members serve four-year terms.

There will also be a three-way race for the Ulster County Legislature District 2 seat with John Schoonmaker, Chris Allen, and Joe Maloney seeking the Democratic nod in the primary.

Town Supervisor Fred Costello will head the town’s Democratic ticket in November general election.
