LIBERTY – The Liberty Village Board has unanimously approved the proposed police reform and reinvention collaborative plan.

Key components include increasing diversity in the police department, improving the personnel complaint process, improving community police relations, and improving the handling of calls involving mental health and substance abuse crises.

“The Village of Liberty Police Department has always taken pride in constantly innovating, evolving, and changing to reflect the needs of the community,” said Chief Scott Kinne. “The input from, and collaboration with members of the community will result in our police department more effectively serving our community members.”

Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan Galligan said that “members of the department at every level recognize that engaging with the diverse Liberty community across all divides strengthens the force’s ability to promote public safety.”
