MID-HUDSON – Two Democratic members of the House of Representatives from the Hudson Valley, Friday, called for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation.

Sean Patrick Maloney and Mondaire Jones both said the governor should step down in the wake of allegation of sexual misconduct.

“These allegations describe something that no one should ever have to deal with – especially in the workplace,” said Maloney.

“Even if we deserve to be treated fairly and to have due process, we also have a responsibility to the people we serve to be effective, and it’s clear to me that the governor can no longer be effective and the State of New York right now needs an effective chief executive to defeat this pandemic and get this economy going again,” he said.

Maloney said he has “every confidence that Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul is fully capable of assuming the duties and responsibilities of the office.”

Meanwhile, Mondaire, who assumed his House seat in January, said Cuomo is “unfit to continue leading our state.”

Mondaire said the governor’s “mismanagement of COVID-19 spread in nursing homes and subsequent attempt to cover it up cost lives and has decimated the public’s faith in our state government.”

Add to that an alleged cover-up of potential structural defects on the Mario Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge and “his refusal to establish a mass vaccination site in Rockland County despite it having the highest rate of COVID-19 infection in New York State, raise additional questions about the Cuomo Administration’s commitment to keeping New Yorkers safe.”

Mondaire also questioned Cuomo’s “fitness to hold any position of public trust,” give the allegations of sexual conduct raised by six women.
