New allegation against governor prompts Assembly Speaker to take action

ALBANY – In the wake of the latest allegation of sexual misconduct on the part of Governor Cuomo, fellow Democrat Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said he was calling a meeting with members of his conference today “on potential paths forward.”

Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins have both called for Cuomo to step down. The governor has dug  his heels and said he would not resign while he apologized for insensitive comments. But, he denied every inappropriately touching women.

Most recently, one woman said he placed his hand under her blouse and groped her while in his office.

Several public officials on both sides of the aisle have called for his resignation. Most recently, Senator Shelley Mayer (D, Yonkers) said the alleged groping incident was “the last straw” and said he should resign.
