New York man arrested in Orange County on extortion charge

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Detectives have arrested a Jamaica, Queens man on a charge of attempted grand larceny in the Town of Wallkill.

Police charged Owen Malcolm, 25, after an investigation disclosed he attempted to extort $12,500 from the victim at 6 Scotchtown Drive by posing as a public defender and requesting bail money for the victim’s son.

Malcolm was released with an appearance ticket returnable to Wallkill Town Court.
