WAPPINGERS FALLS – Route 9 between New Hackensack Road and North Mesier Avenue was closed Monday around 4:00 pm after a serious two-car accident occurred on the roadway. The accident sent three people, including a young child to the hospital in serious condition.

Multiple police, fire, and ambulance personnel responded to the area of the accident shortly before 4:00 pm to assist at a two-car accident in which at least one of the vehicles had overturned.  Occupants in both vehicles needed to be extricated by firefighters.  A total of three extricated victims were treated on scene and airlifted to a hospital for further treatment.

The medivac helicopter had landed in the parking lot of Imperial Plaza near Big Lot where one of the critically injured was loaded on board and flown to a Poughkeepsie hospital.
