KINGSTON – The Ulster County grand jury has indicted Gilbert Thomas, 24, and Robert “Nikki” James, 46, both of 49 Franklin Street in the City of Kingston on a murder charge in the shooting death of 12-year-old D’Janeira Mason on the evening of December 17, 2020.
She was inside her home at 60 Van Buren Street in Kingston when she was struck and killed by a gunshot wound. Bullets had entered their home from outside the rear entrance which faces Van Dusen Street.
In addition to the murder charge, both men were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and assault. James was also charged with criminal facilitation.
State Police arrested both men days after the incident.
District Attorney David Clegg credited cooperation by members of the community with helping to solve the case rapidly. He also praised the State Police for their tireless work in solving the case.
