MONTICELLO – A new operator for the Sullivan County-owned Care Center at Sunset Lake could be selected in January.
The county legislature earlier in 2020 transferred the nursing home to a special local development agency, which is now considering the selection of a private operator for the facility.
County Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty said a number of nursing home management companies have submitted bids to run the facility for the county and they will be reviewed over a two-day period in January.
“They are going to bring in two of those companies each of those days and the idea is to pare it down to a total of three companies and on the 11th, they forward those three names to the legislature and then the legislature will be voting on one of the three to enter into a lease to run the care center,” he said.
Legislators have emphatically said the nursing home will not be sold.
