ELLENVILLE – For two days leading up to Christmas, members of the Ellenville Police Department delivered over 100 turkeys and hams to families in need.

Officers also surprised senior citizens at Glusker Garden Apartments and 199 Canal Street, delivered holiday wishes and turkeys.

The department also brought turkeys to a local church and surprised staff at Ellenville Regional Hospital as they continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Families in need were also brought toys and a ham or turkey of their choice.

“This would have not been possible without the generous donations received from a local family and a local business that wished to remain anonymous, and members of the police department who purchased gifts and donated them,” said Chief Phillip Mattracion.

“In a year that saw so much despair and hardship from this global pandemic, it was so rewarding to be able to bring some smiles, and relief to our residents during this holiday season,” the chief said.

He complimented his officers for their participation in bringing joy to families. “What these men and women did is truly the very definition of community policing, and it is the level of service that we will continue to provide the residents of this community,” Mattracion said. “It was both an honor and a privilege to be able to take the time to give back and demonstrate the good that our police officers do on a daily basis.”
