POUGHKEEPSIE – The company that has developed much of the south end of the Poughkeepsie waterfront is seeking $2.5 million in reimbursement for work after the city council stalled his plans for the continued development of the proposed Poughkeepsie Landing.

Last week, Joe Bonura Jr. sent a letter to Mayor Rob Rolison, requesting reimbursement for his work on the former DeLaval site on the city’s southern border.  As part of the original agreement allowing Bonura to develop the parcels which include Shadows on the Hudson and The Grandview, Bonura’s group performed extensive environmental remediation to the Brownfields site while also installing water, sewer, telephone, cable, and gas lines as he prepared to develop the next phase of the project, known as the Poughkeepsie Landing.

When the council stalled the development in November, Bonura filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming an “illegal city shakedown” by members of the common council.

Bonura has submitted documentation to the city to substantiate his claim for reimbursement.  The developer has offered to hold the reimbursement monies in escrow, pending the outcome of the lawsuit which seeks to allow him to continue the development of the site.
