MONTICELLO – A vote to bond $3.75 million to repave Sullivan County roads is seen by county legislators as a compromise to benefit taxpayers.

Meeting on Thursday afternoon, legislators first rejected a $4 million bond, but after debate opted for the lesser amount.

Legislator Joseph Perrello saw the bond as the best way to address the road maintenance effort.

“I’m the kind of guy to take the money out of my pocket. If I don’t have it, I don’t spend it,” he said. “But this is a different kind of business. We need to keep up with our road program, the taxpayer deserves new roads.”

All eight county legislators who were present voted for the bond.
