SPRING VALLEY – A phone call that an armed man was in the Target store at the Spring Valley Marketplace late Thursday afternoon had taken hostages and placed explosives throughout the mall is believed to be a swatting incident, in other words, a fake bomb threat.

When the call came in, the Spring Valley Police Department immediately dispatched units to the location and the incident turned into a multi-departmental operation being led by the Spring Valley Police Department.

The Target store was evacuated and cleared by agencies on scene as well as several K-9 units from throughout the state.

Once the store was deemed safe of any immediate threat, it was re-opened as well as the rest of vehicular and pedestrian traffic to the Spring Valley Marketplace.

Although the investigation is currently pending, it appears that the initial call was a “swatting” incident, authorities said.
