BREWSTER – State Police are reminding residents to be sure to lock their cars at all times due to an increase in vehicle break-ins and thefts in areas of Putnam County.

Troopers said just over the October 3 weekend, they investigated 10 vehicle break-ins and one stolen vehicle.

The crimes were in Patterson, Southeast and Carmel. The majority of the vehicles were in residential areas and left unlocked with valuables inside.

Police say you should lock your car doors even in your own driveway. Leave all windows and sunroofs closed. Park in well lit areas.

Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running and never leave valuables or personal identification in a vehicle.
