KINGSTON – New York State Troopers were assisted by the Kingston Police during a traffic stop on Wednesday night that resulted in a drug arrest.

Troopers stopped a 2005 Acura TSX on Furnace Street around 8:15 pm on September 2 for traffic violations.  Troopers say that the vehicle was being operated with switched license plates.

As Troopers began interviewing the passenger, 35-year-old David Stokes, Stokes attempted to flee on foot.  Once detained, Stokes, a Kingston resident, resisted arrested and a struggle ensued.  Once he was taken into custody, Troopers found approximately 49 grams of cocaine and 8 grams of marijuana on Stokes.

While being processed troopers learned that Stokes was on parole through the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Stokes was charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, misdemeanors of Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Governmental Administration, and the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana.  His parole officer was notified of the new charges.
The operator of the vehicle Eric Duncan, age 31 of Catskill was released with Uniform Traffic Tickets.
