TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The COVID-19 threat that resulted in the Marist College freshmen dorm was lifted on Thursday, according to school officials.

An email sent to the student body said in part, “Marist College has received the COVID-19 test results from the students who reside in Champagnat Hall referred to in yesterday’s (Wednesday) notice. These tests came back negative. At this time, the temporary quarantine on Champagnat Hall is lifted. Students who were under the temporary quarantine guidelines are now permitted to attend regularly scheduled in-person classes.”

Officials noted that the test results from the other students who attended the party are still pending. “All these students, including those who reside in Champagnat Hall, who attended the off-campus party are still prohibited from campus, and are required to remain in mandatory quarantine for 14 days per guidance from the New York State Department of Health and College policy,” the letter said.

Attempting to reinforce the need to adhere to existing guidelines, the college said that the incident “Should serve as a reminder to all members of the Marist community that we must uphold our shared responsibility to protect our community by wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distance.”

Students were once again reminded that “Attending parties or large gatherings is prohibited,” and violating the policy will result in disciplinary action.
