Rockland teen arrested in murder of Chicago man

ORANGETOWN – 18-year-old Collyer Goodman, of Valley Cottage, was arrested on Monday for the shooting death of a 21-year-old Chicago man that took place Sunday night in Nyack.
Orangetown Police Captain said that officers were summoned to Montefiore-Nyack Hospital Sunday evening at 8:24 pm for a man with a gunshot wound.  Officers found the victim, Darien Brydie, being treated for the fatal wound.
Police investigation determined that the suspect and victim were together in a vehicle parked in the Nyack Plaza when the shooting occurred.  The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been released.
Goodman was taken into custody by the Orangetown Police Department and charged with felony Manslaughter 2nd, Reckless Endangerment 1st, a felony, and the misdemeanor charge of and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th as a result of the shooting.
The investigation is being conducted by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office and the Orangetown Police Department.  District Attorney Tom Walsh said, “We are again struck by another senseless death in Rockland County. Our sympathies go out to the family of this young man. As we come to grips with this as a community, my team continues to work on this case with detectives. I commend the professionalism and dedication shown by the men and women of the Orangetown Police Department.”
Goodman was arraigned in Orangetown Justice Court and bail was set at $250,000. A return court appearance was scheduled for August 27, 2020.
